The Midway Brass is a Kansas City–based brass quintet originally formed at the University of Kansas. Since its founding, the ensemble has performed extensively throughout the region, including at universities, public schools, and community events. Over the past two years, the group has presented numerous recitals featuring both standard brass quintet repertoire, jazz and commercial styles, contemporary compositions, and commissioned works written specifically for the group.

Notable performances include recitals at The University of Kansas and in the Lawrence Area, Washburn University, the University of Kansas commencement ceremonies, the annual KU School of Music Collage Concert, and with the historic Lawrence City Band. The ensemble has also collaborated with the KU School of Architecture and Design and has introduced brass chamber music to first-year undergraduate students through outreach initiatives.

Committed to community engagement, The Midway Brass regularly performs at weddings, funerals, school programs, and seasonal events such as Lawrence Public Schools’ “Brassmas.” In January 2026, the group traveled to Western Kansas, performing concerts and providing in-school clinics to students across the state.

In 2025, The Midway Brass was selected as one of 13 ensembles worldwide to compete in the Festival Ljubljana International Brass Quintets and Quartets Competition in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The only ensemble representing the United States, The Midway Brass performed in the semi-final round of the competition. Also in 2025, the group performed at the World Exposition 2025 in Osaka, Japan, delivering a dynamic program of classical, jazz, and contemporary works by American and North American composers. In 2026, The Midway Brass has been selected as a semi-finalist of the 2026 International Trumpet Guild Chamber Music Competition and will compete at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Rochester, New York this May.
